Theskull of life painting was created by myself along side another indigenous artist Calivilca. We poured our cultures into this art by referencing the Sugar skull from Mexican tradition and styles imbedded from Calivilcas Peruvian lineage.
Him and I had many conversations about what death means to us and our ancestors. What we found led me to titling it, “skull of life,” because across all ancient civilizations there is a permeating affinity for death being only a transition, and not and ending.
We translated this through a joyous depiction of the skull. Revering it for being a vehicle in existence. To experience Death in life and life after death.
